A Story of Grace – Day 11

Apologies for the delay in posting, I have been enjoying a nice long holiday (vacation) with my family for the past fortnight.

Now though I am back with a vengeance!

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.” Romans 8:11 NIV

There’s an old expression in Christian circles… An accusation often hurled at Christians that our faith is all “Pie in the sky, when you die!” In other words, it doesn’t benefit you till you’re dead, so why bother?!

A retort to this surfaced when I was in my youth…  “It’s not pie in the sky, when you die! It’s cake on a plate, while you wait!” Admittedly this is very twee and seriously cheesy but the emphasis is absolutely accurate.  We don’t have to wait till we’re dead to enjoy the benefits of the Grace that Jesus bought for us on the cross!  It begins the day you choose to follow Him!

In fact, Paul writes that the very same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will invigorate and inhabit our frail, fragile human bodies!  That’s not just a spiritual benefit it’s a health benefit too!  Obviously, we still need to be wise, eat right, get sufficient exercise and not do things which are bad or dangerous for our health.  But here in this 2000 year old book, here we have a promise of physical strength and wellbeing as well as spiritual wellbeing!

After being on holiday, I can tell you invigorated is just how I feel!  I pray that you may also be blessed with strength, comfort, health and peace of mind as you learn to seek Him more each and every day.

Amen
